When we create a wine tasting tour in Napa Valley for your group, we want to showcase the best of what this amazing region has to offer. Cosentino was the first winery to create a licensed and designated Meritage wine, a Bordeaux-inspired blend now very popular in the Napa Valley. Napa Valley wineries are unable to call wines “French Bordeaux” since “Bordeaux” designates the wine’s origin; however, the name “meritage,” a combination of “merit” and “heritage” allows Californian winemakers to make wine in the same style as the French Bordeaux. Cosentino was founded in 1980, but has recently gained attention for new winemaker Marty Petersen, whose family has been growing grapes in California since 1904! He joined the winery in 2015, and his innovative winemaking has helped grow the winery’s already stellar reputation.
Visitors to Cosentino have a lot to look forward to. First, a beautiful new patio area gives guests a place to relax and enjoy the winery’s famous ivy-covered façade with glass in hand. You can choose a drop-in tasting or reserve ahead for a private experience for you and your tour group. Cosentino’s wine portfolio is extensive, and offers excellent options for every palate. Enjoy rarer varietals like Semillon, as well as many fine examples of the grapes Napa Valley is known for, like rich Cabernets, balanced Chardonnays, and fruit-forward Zinfandels.
Make sure to ask about the winery’s THE series, showcasing the lush, bold fruit of the Lodi AVA, Wine Enthusiast’s “Region of the Year” in 2015. Lodi is not only a leader in sustainable grape farming – all of Cosentino’s THE wines are farmed sustainably – but is also winemaker Marty Petersen’s hometown.
